Adja / Kazdoura @ Ampere
Adja:
Brussels-based artist Adja Fassa releases her debut album two years after her highly acclaimed EP IRONEYE – a multi-layered, haunting work.
In eleven songs, she explores the impact of our capitalist society on intimate relationships: from dystopian neo-soul stories about Deliveroo drivers and telemarketers selling ‘hope and dreams’ to reinterpreted jazz and classical motifs about friendships that depend on time and money. There's even room for an ironic protest rock song. The title-song Golden Retrieve Her combines emotional states and musical curiosity in equal measure.
The title is a play on words about the desire to reclaim kindness in a violent social system, and at the same time a critique of the expectation to be naive or to feign naivety – condensed in the image of the supposedly perfect, obedient nuclear family with a golden retriever.
Serious themes, symbolically packaged: Adja developed four tarot cards as a visual extension of the album to accompany it. They represent power and powerlessness in the system, projection and lost connections, moral turning points, and the painful yet liberating return to oneself. Kazdoura: Kazdoura – Levantine for ‘going for a walk’ – stands for movement, discovery and connection. Founded in Toronto by Syrian singer Leen Hamo and Lebanese multi-instrumentalist John Abou Chacra, the project was born in 2020 out of a shared passion for music. What began as an experiment quickly developed into one of Canada's most exciting acts, combining Arab heritage with global sounds. At its core is a genre-defying sound: traditional and contemporary Arab music meets psychedelia, funk and soul. Deep grooves, shimmering melodies and Leen's ornate voice in Syrian Arabic create an atmosphere that is both nostalgic and forward-looking. Their debut album Ghoyoum (2025) reached over a million streams and won several awards. Internationally acclaimed live performances – from Canada to Europe and Egypt – underscore Kazdoura's role as a cultural bridge. The duo is currently working on their second album and further developing their distinctive sound. Good to lnow: Both concerts can be booked separately, but a combined ticket is also available! Lovebird Festival
Various music genres are presented and other art forms are integrated. Jazz is at the heart of the program, but it does not dominate; instead, it serves as the foundation for a wide range of new sonic combinations: jazz and hip-hop, jazz and electronic music, as well as indie, funk, and soul. The aim is to create a festival from an expanded musical offering and additional creative spaces that functions as a harmonious Gesamtkunstwerk, encouraging participation, listening, observing, and reflection. In short: a festival for the senses. The non-music program includes: a film screening at the Cinema arthouse cinema, a karaoke talk with Musikalisches Poesiealbum, a panel discussion, and a music and bird-themed city tour.
