Diego Piñera @ Palais Wittgenstein
Diego Piñera has already proven himself many times over as one of the most exciting drummers in contemporary jazz and someone who knows how to build a good band. The 42-year-old's life journey has taken him from Uruguay to Cuba, from the USA to Berlin; and from eight released albums (two of them on ACT Music) to hundreds of concerts on four continents, a Grammy nomination, an Echo Jazz Award and, most recently, the German Jazz Award 2023. Scott Colley, Donny McCaslin, Ben Monder, Sebastian Schunke, Joo Kraus, Omar Sosa – just a small selection from Diego's list of collaborations – make for exciting reading. As a lecturer at the universities of Dresden and Osnabrück, Diego Piñera also teaches the next generation how to play with rhythms. More information here!(opens in a new tab)

Lovebird Festival
Various music genres are presented and other art forms are integrated. Jazz is at the heart of the program, but it does not dominate; instead, it serves as the foundation for a wide range of new sonic combinations: jazz and hip-hop, jazz and electronic music, as well as indie, funk, and soul. The aim is to create a festival from an expanded musical offering and additional creative spaces that functions as a harmonious Gesamtkunstwerk, encouraging participation, listening, observing, and reflection. In short: a festival for the senses. The non-music program includes: a film screening at the Cinema arthouse cinema, a karaoke talk with Musikalisches Poesiealbum, a panel discussion, and a music and bird-themed city tour.
