Fuchsbau is back - so glad you're here ✨

Under the theme "We're doomed, babe - A journey to the end of the world"*, we renegotiate the question of how to deal with the end of the world: We start from the realization that world-ending catastrophes do not describe a dystopian future that must be prevented, but rather show existing realities that are anchored in the structural, unchecked greed for limitless growth. With the help of Afrofuturism, postcolonial approaches and critical theory, we question the future from its end. What does it mean for our idea of the future if the end has already arrived? Can we even dream up emancipatory potentials with apocalypses and their consequences? A moment of radical self-revelation? We’ll talk about power, power structures, access to knowledge and the question of who defines what is considered a catastrophe and what is not.

Awareness & Code of Conduct

We want to create a braver space at the Fuchsbau Festival. Misanthropic and discriminatory, i.e. racist, anti-Semitic, anti-Muslim, sexist, queer-hostile, trans-hostile and ableist behavior will not be tolerated and will lead to exclusion from the event. You can read our Code of Conduct here(opens in a new tab). There will be a trained awareness team on site who you can contact if you feel uncomfortable or need a place to retreat.

A new format: smaller, more intimate, more affordable

Allmost everything has become more expensive in recent years - also festivals are not immune to this. Accordingly, we have put our heads together to see how we can ensure that Fuchsbau Festival remains affordable to a brad audience. The result is a different festival format compared to previous years: Instead of a three-day event on up to five stages, the program will be denser, with the parallel program limited to two stages. At the same time, we want to make use of the more intimate setting: The focus is on encounters and exchange: you as visitors are part of an immersive experience.

Transparency on ticket prices

Because transparency is important to us: Around 50% of the costs for the festival are production costs (technology, infrastructure, etc.).We spend about a third of the money on artists' fees (including travel expenses). The rest of the money is spent on advertising and documentation as well as fees for the part of our team that does not work on a voluntary basis, e.g. the awareness team or our tax consultants. By the way: if we didn't have public funding, the ticket would have to be more than twice as expensive.

An additional 5.5% shopping cart fee is added to the ticket price. This amount goes to our sustainable ticketing service provider Höme. Höme uses the fees, among other things, to promote more diversity in the cultural sector.

Soli contribution and soli tickets

We have made every effort to keep ticket prices fair. As our budget is very tight, we are very happy to receive voluntary solidarity contributions at check-out if you have a few euros to spare.

If you can't afford the ticket, please contact Anna (she/her) at [email protected]. Alternatively, you can of course also volunteer at the festival. Keep an eye on our Instagram account, we will post the call here soon.

Group discount

Are you a group of friends? Then buy together and save. If you buy more than 5 weekend tickets at once, you will receive a 10% discount on the entire shopping cart.

Residents tickets

Are you from one of the surrounding villages around Zytanien and would like to come to our festival? Then we have a special treat for you - local residents naturally pay a lower price. Just get in touch with Julia (she/her) at [email protected]

Day passes

... go on sale around mid-June.

How to get there

As we only have very limited parking spaces available this year, we ask you to leave your car behind if at all possible. We are planning to organize a joint bicycle journey from Hanover. You can also easily reach the Zytanien event site by public transport: Take the S-Bahn to Lehrte and from there take the “Sprinti” public transport bus to Ziegeleistraße 41. If you do have to travel by car, you will have the opportunity to purchase parking tickets at a later date. We will also be selling breakfast tickets so that you are well provided for the whole weekend.

The place

We have been guests at Zytanien since 2015. This extraordinary place - an old brickworks site situated between fields and lakes - has its own special magic. We are grateful to be here every year!

The team

The crew behind the Fuchsbau Festival works on a voluntary basis. We are organized decentrally and are based in Hamburg, Berlin, Weimar, Dresden, Braunschweig, Hildesheim and Hanover and work on this project all year round. We are united by the desire to provide you as a visitor with a very special festival experience that deals with burning issues of our time every year and at the same time creates a space that invites you to escape from everyday life. If you would like to get to know the team, please contact Julia (she/he) at [email protected]

Funding

The Fuchsbau Festival 2024 is possible thanks to the support of Stiftung Niedersachsen, Stiftung Kulturregion Hannover and Initiative Musik.

Thank you!

Thank you for finding your way to this page and for wanting to experience a wonderful weekend with us in July 🫶

*Remarks

We as the Fuchsbau team are aware that the topic of “apocalypses” is multi-layered and challenging and has become even more challenging and complex since the late summer of 2023, when we originally wrote the concept. We would therefore like to provide a little more context to clarify and reflect together with you on the position and perspective from which the festival's theme has emerged and which sub-themes we want to address.

We're doomed, babe.

[We] - The current Fuchsbau Festival team is mostly white, cis (about 75% cis women), academically educated and grew up privileged. The theme was developed from this perspective - because even for people as privileged as us, the current world seems more crisis-ridden than previous times. At the same time, we realized from what a privileged position we perceive the end of the world - and decided to reflect on this situation together with you. Accordingly, we invite Flinta* and BiPoC people in particular to share their thoughts, art and research on the topic.

[doomed] - We are of course aware that a thirty-four hour festival is far too short to illuminate and reflect on the complexities of all crises and apocalyptic scenarios. We therefore had to narrow things down. The festival is about historically rooted social inequality; it's about the climate crisis and how we deal with it, and it's about the current political situation right on our doorstep.
