Next Generation @ Theatermuseum
The David Giesel Quartet delivers contemporary jazz marked by energy, openness and dynamic interplay. Musicians from Germany, England and Sweden come together to form a sound deeply rooted in jazz while drawing inspiration from rock and indie aesthetics. With their debut album Echoes of the Unknown, the quartet presents a clear artistic statement: distinctive melodies, transparent structures and grooves that leave space for interaction and spontaneity. Rather than over-complexity, Giesel focuses on reduction and communication — the music thrives on dialogue and the shared moment. As part of the Next Generation series by Jazz thing and Double Moon Records, the quartet’s sound unfolds with particular intensity in a live setting.
Jazz singer Johanna Schneider and pianist Laia Genc have been performing together for ten years and have developed a distinctive duo sound characterised by musical intimacy, subtle timbres and great emotional intensity. The two internationally active musicians combine their own compositions, selected jazz standards ranging from swing to bossa nova, and rarely heard songs to create a lively programme. Rooted in the Great American Songbook, they leave plenty of room for spontaneity and musical surprises. Johanna Schneider captivates with her warm, soulful voice and keen sense of swing, while Laia Genc shapes the duo's sound with her expressive, multifaceted piano playing. ‘10 Years and Counting’ showcases a duo that naturally combines tradition and personal style – lively, approachable and full of joy.
With DEBUT, guitarist and composer Alexander Rueß presents his first album as a bandleader. Together with Luca Curcio (double bass) and Sebastian Merk (drums), the trio creates music where breathing grooves meet intimate, lyrical melodies. Their sound combines melodic clarity with an open, European jazz language, subtly shaped by influences from folk and prog rock. Rooted in Rueß’ journey from Ostholstein via Berlin to Copenhagen, the music feels personal, focused and searching at the same time. DEBUT was released on Double Moon Records/Jazzthing Next Generation, featuring Nils Landgren as a guest, and stands for jazz with character and lasting resonance.

Lovebird Festival
Various music genres are presented and other art forms are integrated. Jazz is at the heart of the program, but it does not dominate; instead, it serves as the foundation for a wide range of new sonic combinations: jazz and hip-hop, jazz and electronic music, as well as indie, funk, and soul. The aim is to create a festival from an expanded musical offering and additional creative spaces that functions as a harmonious Gesamtkunstwerk, encouraging participation, listening, observing, and reflection. In short: a festival for the senses. The non-music program includes: a film screening at the Cinema arthouse cinema, a karaoke talk with Musikalisches Poesiealbum, a panel discussion, and a music and bird-themed city tour.
