Nneka Egbuna is an artist, activist and songwriter who combines all facets of her identity in her music. Her work combines courage, conviction and emotional depth, leading to collaborations with artists such as Nas, Damian Marley, Chase & Status and Rita Ora. Growing up in Nigeria under strict family structures, she found her way to music late and indirectly – first in church contexts, later after fleeing to Germany. In Hamburg, she developed her voice as an expression of self-empowerment and social reflection. Her early albums combined soul, hip-hop, reggae and electronica with clear political statements on migration, inequality and responsibility. She achieved her international breakthrough with the song ‘Heartbeat’, whose remix by Chase & Status was later sampled by Rita Ora and led to joint projects with Nas and Damian Marley. After a conscious creative break, Nneka returned with the album Love Supreme – written in the isolation of the pandemic. The work marks a turning point towards self-reflection, healing and inner freedom. Love Supreme stands for a new beginning and for the power of self-love as a political and personal attitude. Lovebird Festival

Various music genres are presented and other art forms are integrated. Jazz is at the heart of the program, but it does not dominate; instead, it serves as the foundation for a wide range of new sonic combinations: jazz and hip-hop, jazz and electronic music, as well as indie, funk, and soul. The aim is to create a festival from an expanded musical offering and additional creative spaces that functions as a harmonious Gesamtkunstwerk, encouraging participation, listening, observing, and reflection. In short: a festival for the senses. The non-music program includes: a film screening at the Cinema arthouse cinema, a karaoke talk with Musikalisches Poesiealbum, a panel discussion, and a music and bird-themed city tour.
