Sebastian Gahler Electric Stories @ Malkasten
With Electric Stories, Düsseldorf-based jazz pianist Sebastian Gahler presents an energetic, groove-based album that combines high-energy jazz with narrative depth. Inspired by the electro, funk and fusion jazz of the 1960s and 70s – such as Herbie Hancock's Head Hunters – Gahler switches from the grand piano to a setup of vintage keyboards, synthesizers and organs.
Together with a top-class ensemble and New York star trombonist Andy Hunter, he creates a warm, powerful band sound that combines retro aesthetics with contemporary energy. The live recordings tell musical stories that oscillate between groove, reflection and electric tension. Electric Stories also marks the first physical release on Gahler's own label, Jazz Kitchen Records.

Lovebird Festival
Various music genres are presented and other art forms are integrated. Jazz is at the heart of the program, but it does not dominate; instead, it serves as the foundation for a wide range of new sonic combinations: jazz and hip-hop, jazz and electronic music, as well as indie, funk, and soul. The aim is to create a festival from an expanded musical offering and additional creative spaces that functions as a harmonious Gesamtkunstwerk, encouraging participation, listening, observing, and reflection. In short: a festival for the senses. The non-music program includes: a film screening at the Cinema arthouse cinema, a karaoke talk with Musikalisches Poesiealbum, a panel discussion, and a music and bird-themed city tour.
